Bee genome published Oct. 26, 2006

The honey bee genome was published in the Oct. 26, 2006, issue of Nature, by the Honeybee Genome Sequencing Consortium. Companion articles appeared on the same date in Nature and the same week in the journals Science, Proceedings of the National Academies of Science (PNAS), and special issues of Genome Research and Insect Molecular Biology. Publication of the genome was also widely reported in the popular press.

BeeSpace co-investigator Gene E. Robinson is co-leader of the Consortium and was lead author of the original whitepaper for the sequencing. BeeSpace co-investigators Susan Fahrbach, Sandra Rodriguez-Zas and ChengXiang Zhai each authored a companion paper, and project-affiliated graduate student Xu Ling co-authored a paper. Project-affiliated researchers Saurabh Sinha and Charles Whitfield also each authored a paper.
